Addisu Demissie and Junaid Jemal Sendi grew up in underprivileged families in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. At the age of 10, they were selected by the British-based dance organization Dance United, which set up, in partnership with the Ethiopian Gemini Trust, a 5 year comprehensive dance training program for 18 young people in the 1990's. After completing their training, Junaid and Addisu went on to perform on some of the most renowned stages in the world, including The Place and Sadler's Wells in London, and in festivals and events across Europe and Africa, under the company named "Adugna". Their work has been internationally recognized through awards and prizes.

DESTINO Dance Company was created thanks to a handful of people who believe positive change can be achieved in the lives of young people by allowing them to express themselves, using their body and movement, the same tool which was given to Junaid and Addisu 20 years ago. DESTINO is the expression of their legacy: they are providing the same opportunity to other young boys and girls, to enable them to transform their reality and create their own future.
